Message from Com.J.P.CHAUBEY.  General Secretary, All India Railwaymen's Federation.

I am  extremely happy to  know that  the South Central Railway Mazdoor Union, which is an  affiliate of All India Railwaymen's  Federation  has  strongly  felt  the need for updating its infrastructure in the Union  office  concerning to Information technology and has therefore also provided the Internet and also the Web site to provide all the  information and data as  may be necessary  to be accessed  by those who are  concerned  to  Labour  Movement  in  the Transport Industry.

From  the  Web  site  of  the  Union's  Computer  it will facilitate the Union to get access with various organisations internationally, where information is available in abundance so  that the  data based  approach  for interaction  by multi-faceted ways of representation, discussions and negotiations would purposefully be pursued for increasing the efficiency of the efforts of the Union to serve the Railwaymen better.

 I  would  like to  congratulate  the  leadership  of the South Central Railway Mazdoor Union, being a pioneer for reckoning the need of the hour and for providing hi-tech facilities in the Union Office.

  It is  really very  heartening  to note that our Union is going 'On Line' at the threshold of the next  millennium,  truly  living upto  its vision  and  reputation .  My  hearty  greetings  to our Comrades  on  this happy  occasion  and also on the eve of May Day.

COM.PUROHIT  President.  International Transport workers Federation, General Secretary,Hind Mazdoor Sabha & President,All India Railwaymen's Federation

It is really a matter of great pride to all the Railwaymen that  Com. Purohit, who is a retired Railway employee has been  unanimously  elected  as the  President of International Transport Workers Federation in the 39th World Congress of ITF held from 29th October,1998 to 5th November,1998 at New Delhi.

Com.Purohit was  born  on 1st March, 1928 at  Jodhpur in Rajasthan State. He joined the Jodhpur  State  Railway in 1946  as   Asst.Station Master  at  the age of 18 years. He  got   involved in a strike within 15 days of his service  and  was dismissed  and  reinstated. Again he was dismissed in 1947 and  was reinstated in 1949.Com.Purohit came  over to  BB  &  CI  Railway  Employees Union subsequently renamed as Western Railway Employees Union (WREU).In 1950 he was elected as Branch Secretary, at the age of 22 years.

Com.Purohit was the first ever person taken on full time  deputation  to  WREU  in  1953 and  as General Secretary of WREU in 1958, which post  he continues  to hold. In 1962 Com.Purohit  was elected as Asst.General Secretary to AIRF and in 1972 as its Working President.  In  1980  he  became the President of AIRF, which responsibility he is still carrying. He played vital role in 1960  and 1974 Railwaymen's Strikes.In 1985 he  became the  General  Secretary of  Hind Mazdoor  Sabha(National Council). He is associated with  ICFTU and ITF for several decades.Now in the recently concluded 39th ITF World Congress,he has become the President of ITF, one of the  International  Transport  Workers Federation with  more than 5 million membership to become the first ever Asian to the prestegious chair.
